The square on my phone is
a relay race;
gotta get to you before
you can get to them
gotta show you me
before you decide to swim
in the open water
on shallow ground
I thought it started great
but here’s the thing:
I’m running the 400
by myself
and you’re running the
4X100
each new version of you
leaving me in the dust
It’s when I pace myself
prepare for what’s to come
that I find my stride
long graceful gallops
like gazelles running free…
I think to myself
I got the race won
But you are

blinky blurry magic acts
collecting medals for your pedestal
while I work on my lungs
for the long run marathon
with a question at the finish line
