sometimes
I get so close
over the walls
to the other side of the fence
but the ground is so far away
so I climb right back in
and
sometimes
after a long day
of growing up like an adult does
I step on the train
sit for a stop
watch the one stop become two
feel my energy start to wane
and arrive back in my cradle
sometimes
those busy days
where the entire world surrounds you
a blanket sweeps a curtain
and you find yourself alone
just nature’s sounds remind you
a symphony of rain drops
the hum of condensation
the figurines above
and
sometimes
her voice comes
the one who sang me lullabies
who rocked me back and forth
just like a tranquilizing pendulum
a voice I hear anywhere
a voice I’ll hear everywhere
that guides me back to sanity
and leads me back to sleep
